How to Succeed at University
Students of Handong Global University who want to do well in their classes need to set priorities, study regularly, and keep their goals in mind. The first principle is important because there are so many opportunities and responsibilities at HGU! Team commitments, club meetings and friendships with others are all important and wonderful areas of growth, but by the halfway mark of the semester it can be difficult to keep up with all of the challenges. Students must decide which of the many opportunities they want or need the most, because there will always be more available than any student can maintain over a busy semester. The second principle is also important because, after all, students are at HGU in order to gain a worthwhile education. In order to achieve this goal, students must create an effective system for increasing their knowledge and skills. Leaving everything to the last few days before an exam is not the best way to learn! Instead, the wise student will set aside two or three hours every evening to read textbooks, complete assignments, and review classes. In this way, midterm and final exams will become much less threatening. Finally, the third principle encourages students to remember and reflect on why they are at HGU. There are many universities in South Korea, so what makes HGU different? The opportunity to combine a challenging academic program with a clear and relevant Biblical worldview is unique in this country. Students should expect to encounter this combination of academics and faith in their professors, their classmates, and themselves. Keeping expectations high will result in a quality education allowing students to fulfill Handong’s motto of Why Not Change The World? In conclusion, students can expect to be at HGU for at least four years to complete their education. Staying focused for such a long time requires balancing the many opportunities of this university, maintaining effective study habits, and frequently reviewing the long-term commitment to a quality faith-based education.
